Research Assistant - Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology, Raleigh, NC

The Research Assistant will be mainly responsible for performing laboratory and field research in nematode pathogens of sweetpotato, soybean, tobacco, cotton, and other crops. The incumbent will work in establishing, maintaining, harvesting, and collecting data from experiments performed in the laboratory, greenhouse, and field. The incumbent should be able to work on research activities both independently and collaboratively, and will receive specialized training as needed. Daily activities will consist of maintaining plants, maintaining nematode cultures, working in a Level II Biosafety Cabinet, rating disease among plants in the laboratory and in the field, extracting nematodes from soil and plant samples, examining specimens under the microscope, and using molecular methods such as PCR. The Research Assistant will be responsible for organizing and analyzing data and generating reports from trials.
